What is
the Auto Alerting Service or SDI (Selective Dissemination of Information)?
An auto alert
is a saved database search strategy that is automatically run against
the latest database update. Setting up an auto alert allows you to regularly
receive a list of the latest citations on any topic you specify.
How
do I request an auto alert?
First, you
will need an Athens username. If you are a member of staff or student
on placement at University
Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust,
you can obtain an Athens username by following the Athens self-registration
link from the library home page or by clicking here.
Please note that to obtain an Athens account immediately you can only
register from within the NHS trust network otherwise it may take up to
10 days for your account to be activated.
Once you have
an Athens username, please fill out the
Auto Alerting request form and bring it to the library. A librarian
will develop an effective search strategy with you and conduct an initial
search. If the results are acceptable, the search will be saved and run
automatically each time new citations are added to the selected database.
These citations will be e-mailed to you.
Can
I set up an auto alert myself?
Yes, as long
as you have an Athens account.
Dialog users
(NHS) should create a search as normal, click on the Create Alert button
after carrying out the search, and follow the on-screen instructions.
Ovid users
